Coming Together for the Chinese New Year

Chinese Community leader Jeanny Ho (in red) and At-Large Councilmember Phil Mendelson allowed me to walk with them during the parade after one of many luncheons held for local elected officials.
The Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association and Chinatown Chamber of Commerce held the annual Chinese New Year's celebration down in Chinatown today. They invited me to take part in parade and other events earlier in the day that featured City Councilmembers and many the other local officials who have been very involved in supporting the Chinese community downtown. More pictues will be posted soon.

The view of the parade doesn't get any better than this.

Councilmembers Yvette Alexander (Ward 7) and Phil Mendelson (At-Large) and I walked together to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year's celebration for the Year of the Rat. I really enjoyed the festivities despite the chilly winds.

Ward 2 Councilmember Evans and I speak during Chinese New Year celebration
During a portion of the ceremonies, I was able to sit down and speak at length with Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans about several of the issues that have come up on the local Shaw listservs and blogs. Mr Evans assures me that he is very concerned about the problems that have been raised most recently online and he and I plan to speak again in the next few days to see if we can devise some resolution about several issues.
