Good riddance

512 Rhode Island Avenue NW
Although the owner of 512 Rhode Island Avenue NW never bothered to follow through with his promise to remove the parked vehicles on his lot, the City finally did it last week with a little encouragement from the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services. The owner of the property did not have the proper license to keep these vehicles at this location. We are still in the process of finalizing a few minor legal details of the voluntary liquor license agreement with the owner.

can you take any credit for this happening, kevin?
IMGoph,
I've been aware of the problem for some time, since I live across the street from the property, and it was a part of discussions with the owner when we discussed the V.A.. But I must give credit where it is due to Mark Bjorge, DCRA, and the Department of Public Works Parking Services Administration Abandoned Vehicle Operations crew who did the hard work to get this done finally. They have kept me abreast of the process from the initial investigation, to notifying the owner about the certificate of occupancy and licensing violations and finally the removal of the vehicles. Many problems like these require a team effort to encourage city agencies to act after following all the proper procedures.

Kevin, you live across the street? Where are you? are you on my block? I thought you lived somewhere further away...
What ever happened with the potential wine store going in there? I heard there was some talk they might back off on selling other liquor to get the license... I'm for anything that adds any more small businesses close by, but I do love the guys who run store at 5 and RIA and hate to see them have too much competition.

No Bryan I do not live on your block. I don't live directly across the street from the property.

Is THAT what was going on there. I got stuck in some traffic when a police officer was blocking the street for the tow truck, and I assumed it was just the business self-centeredly blocking traffic in the middle of the afternoon. Glad to hear it was for a good and legal purpose!
There's enough credit to share in this, Kevin. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, and for bearing with us while our agencies worked out the legalities.
