ANC2C02&You! Magazine- Spring Issue hits the streets this weekend

I and the team have been working hard over the past few weeks to finish the latest newsletter which I will henceforth refer to, humbly, as a "magazine" if only to distinguish it from the one-sheet I occassionally distribute at public meetings. This issue is filled with good stuff, from a piece from George Kassouf about finally bringing a dog park to Shaw to highlights from the American Classic Woman of the Year Pageant. The cover, a collaboration between local photog Tom Williams and Martin Moulton is personally my favorite cover yet and features Theresa Sule, a community leader and local parent, who I was happy to be able to sit down and speak with personally about her perspective on a variety of issues in Shaw. Read our Q&A that begins on page 6.

I want to thank our advertisers for their contributions to the newsletter and using it as a vehicle for reaching out to the community about their products, services and campaign information. The advertisers have helped make this issue the biggest and possibly the best yet.

Many thanks to: local ANC2C02 residents and realtors Payam Bakhaje and Joel N Martin, Long View Gallery, Councilmember Jack Evans' 2008 Campaign, Cary Silverman's Ward 2 DC Council Campaign, Roadside Development, Cheryl Lofton & Associates and Chaudré Custom Clothing, At Large Councilmember Kwame Brown's 2008 Campaign, Washington Yu Ying Charter School, Jessica Lanza's 2008 ANC2C Campaign, DC Public Library, Scott Montgomery Elementary, KIPP DC Charter School, Chatman's D'Vine Bakery & Café, Fresh Farm Markets, ONEDC, Good Libations, the 14th&U and Bloomingdale Farmer's Markets, Capital Construction Group LLC, the Russian Music Academy of America, Emmaus Services for the Aging and Douglas Development Corporation.

Lastly, ANC2C02 residents should receive individual copies delivered to their homes as soon as we can get them out over the next week. Copies will also be available at Bread for the City, the 7th St laundromat, Emmaus Services for the Aging, Azi's, Breakwells, and Chatman's cafés, Long View Gallery, Cheryl Lofton & Associates, Lettie Gooch Boutique, Good Libations, all of the churches and religious organizations in my single member district and the Masjid Muhammad mosque, the Kennedy Recreaton Center, Asbury Dwellings, 2nd NW Coop, the ABC and 5th&O Markets, and the Penn Quarter, Bloomingdale and 14th& U farmers markets. Copies have already been sent home with students from Scott Montgomery and KIPP:DC just before school let out for summer break today. There should also be copies available at the MVSNA and other upcoming public meetings and the Executive Offices of the Walter E Washington Convention Center.

Correction: The DCPL Watha T Daniel / Shaw Library meeting will be held on Monday, June 23 (as noted in the DCPL ad on page 11; it is incorrectly noted in the announcements on page 4).

Update: As an update to "The Players Election 2008" box, I learned after the pub went to press last week, that there are new candidates for the Ward 2 and At Large DC Council seats. Patrick Mara is running to unseat At Large Councilmember Carol Schwartz, and Republican Christina Culver has picked up petitions to enter the race, along with Cary Silverman, to unseat Councilmember Jack Evans. Also, DC Shadow Senator Paul Strauss is running for re-election. I spoke with Strauss's campaign chief of staff at Jack Evans' campaign kick off at the Kennedy Recreation Center weeks ago. I sincerely regret this omission.
