Plan to attend the Shaw NIF meeting next week

Although there was nothing on the scheduled agenda for this evening's ANC2C meeting aside from housekeeping matters, there were a few interesting projects coming to the area that will not doubt be beneficial to the community.

One developer, whose project will bring eight units of condos (or rental apartments) to 1513-1515 11th Street, asked for ANC approval for the use of pubic space to create planting boxes to conceal the handicap access ramp to the building. This type of project is encouraged by the HPRB to maintain an attractive curb appearance while accommodating this feature for those with mobility problems.

Another merchant will be bringing Nando's Peri-Peri African/Portuguese chicken to a vacant commercial property in Chinatown at 819 7th Street NW.

A representative from the DC Office of Planning announced the upcoming meeting for the Shaw NIF plans. The NIF plans are designed to promoted projects and developments that enhance a neighorhood. They proposals for plan uses input from community stakeholders including the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners, residents, business owners, faith community, not for profit organizations, among other groups.

All community stake holders should particularly consider attending this meeting. Only ANC 2C01 Commissioner Alexander M Padro attended the first meeting, but the Office of Planning rep intends to reach out to more local stake holders for the meeting next week.
