Although it's planned to be Giant's biggest market in town, by the time all the new residential developments (note depictions of massings around site) are occupied, say around 20012, won't we be back to hour long check outs during peak periods? The market would be great now, by the time it's finished we'll need one twice the size.

The man said the GIANT will be closed for 3 years. So we will have no store for 3 years, right? Where is the nearest store? I don't know what to think about the GIANT being closed for 3 years. Lord have mercy.

Well, according to the web site http://roadsidedevelopment.com/ they are talking to start construction in FALL 2008. Does that mean that they will break ground or start working on this?
Is there an POC for this that could update the list serv on regular basis?

CityMarket at O Street: This 4-acre site is located two city blocks north of the new Washington, DC Convention Center. Roadside plans to begin construction in the fall of 2008 on the $250 million mixed-use development of the site that will include the preservation of the 1881 market building into a new 65,000-square foot Giant Food Store, 600 units of rental and condominium housing, a 180-room hotel, and a restaurant and additional shops.

Giant will be closed for up to two years from the time it closes to the date it reopens its doors as part of the old market building. This is stipulated as part of the lease that Giant has with Roadside.
